On September 17th, 1992, a local nursing home in Alexandria requested ambulance transportation to the Rayburn Surgery Center in Pineville for a resident who needed a surgery follow-up visit. Med Express had opened its doors that morning and this lady was the first patient served by this new company.
This week completed the 25th year of service that Med Express has provided throughout Central Louisiana and other locations in the US. Nearly half a million transports- emergency ambulance, critical care ambulance, nonemergency ambulance and paratransit trips- have been provided since day one. “Looking back, it’s hard to believe that 25 years have passed, but what an amazing trust that the community has extended to our staff and our company,” says Mark Majors, founder and CEO.
Based in Alexandria at 2560 Bolton Ave, Med Express Ambulance Service employs more than 100 Louisiana men and women as EMTs, Paramedics, Dispatchers, Mechanics, Billing and Administration Staff. Substations and staff are located in Rapides, Sabine, Avoyelles and St. Landry Parishes. Additionally, projects that are produced directly with or affiliated with the US Department of Defense are ongoing in Nevada, Utah, New Jersey, Illinois and Arizona.
“Med Express Ambulance Service was founded on a passion that improvements in rural Emergency Medical Services were achievable and essential”, says Majors, “and a dynamic, creative and realistic business model was created that does just that.” Efficient deployment, options to ambulance transports, free discount programs, EMS system design, and strategic partnerships are vital in making quality emergency service while being sensitive to the costs of delivering these lifesaving services. The Med Express Free VIP Enrollment Program and the partnership with Air-Evac LifeTeam and Life Air Rescue’s ACCESS helicopter ambulance program are examples of these concepts.
